How to Setup Tape Applicator Head

Section A — Requirements for Proper Operation (Checklist)

Before operating the TD-35 Tape Applicator Head, ensure all the following conditions are met:

  1. The height (gap between the paper and the applicator head) is correctly adjusted.
  2. The tape roll feeds smoothly.
  3. The tape feeding limiter guide aligns the tape perfectly straight and matches the tape width.
  4. The cutting blade cuts the tape cleanly and accurately.
  5. The brake holds the tape with sufficient tension.
  6. The taping roller makes contact with a rigid surface.
  7. The piston rod extension is positioned correctly.
  8. The piston activation timing (on/off) is synchronized properly.

⚙️ Note:
Settings 1, 4, 7, and 8 require fine-tuning for optimal performance.
In most cases, items 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 are factory preset and should not be adjusted unless you are experienced and fully understand their function.

Section B — Setup Steps After Unboxing (Manual Taping Test)

Follow these steps to set up a new TD-35 from the factory:

  1. Install the tape roll and route it correctly according to the video guide.
  2. Pull out 10–30 cm of tape from the bottom of the taping roller.
  3. Turn on the air pressure (set to 0.2 MPa).
  4. You should now be able to cut the excess 10–20 cm of tape easily by pulling it.
  5. Adjust Section A Item 3 (tape guide width).
  6. Mount the applicator onto your production line — maintain a bottom gap of approximately 8 mm from the conveyor belt or roller.
  7. Verify Section A Item 6 (taping roller surface).
  8. Pass your product under the applicator, then manually press and hold the solenoid valve button to activate the piston.
  9. The taping roller (with tape) should contact the product surface and apply the tape smoothly as you move it.
  10. When you release the solenoid valve button, the tape should be cut cleanly.

Verification for Steps B1 – B4

OK:

  • Items A2, A4, and A5 are functioning correctly.

NOT OK:

  • Check A2: Tape must feed smoothly along the correct path.
  • Check A5: If the brake is loose, tighten it.
  • Check A4: If cutting is inconsistent, fine-tune the blade position. Extend the blade about 1 mm test again until it cuts cleanly. Ensure the blade is sharp.

Verification for Steps B5 – B10

OK:

  • Items A1, A3, and A6 are functioning correctly.

NOT OK:

  • Recheck A6 and A3 first.
  • Then adjust A1 (height):
If the tape doesn’t adhere to your product, fine-tune the height by adjusting the height set screw.
Turn the screw half a turn at a time, test again, and repeat until the taping is reliable and consistent for every pass.

Section C — Automatic Taping Mode

  1. Before proceeding, ensure Section B (manual taping) is completed successfully.
  2. Start feeding your product at a low speed (around 30 m/min). Feed one piece at a time — not continuously.
  3. Test automatic taping operation.
  4. Fine-tune the solenoid valve activation start and end timing.
  5. Remember, the pneumatic piston has a natural delay — you must compensate for this.
  6. If you change the product feeding speed, you will need to readjust the solenoid valve activation timing again.
